Five Signs Your North Augusta Home May Have A Bed Bug Problem

December 15, 2020

Problems in life are often hard to identify, like why is the car making a bumping or wheezing sound, or how is it possible that my left leg feels both simultaneously hot and cold? To solve many of life’s problems, professionals have studied long and hard. In most cases, the use of a few signs can indicate a more serious underlying issue. This is true for pest problems as much as it is for anything else. Today, we will be talking about one pest that is best identified by the things they leave behind, bed bugs. Keep your eye out for these five signs to identify a bed bug infestation inside your North Augusta home.

Sign Number 1: Live Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are apple seed-sized, reddish-brown, parasitic pests that rely on the blood of humans and occasionally animals to survive. During the day, bed bugs will do everything they can to stay out of sight. This often involves hiding inside cracks, crevices, and in hard to reach locations throughout a home. We recommend starting your search for these tiny blood stealers by turning over your mattress and boxspring and checking its crevices. After this, thoroughly search the rest of your home using a flashlight to see deeper into cracks, recesses, and spacing bed bugs might be hiding.

Sign Number 2: Blood Stains

Bed bugs aren’t good at limiting how much they eat, which often leads to blood leaking from their mouthparts after they have finished feeding. This blood falls onto bed linens or around the area where you are sleeping. After waking up each morning, check your bed thoroughly for dried spots of blood. As long as you don’t have any open scabs or other reasons for there to be spots of blood in your bed, this sign could mean bed bugs are around.

Sign Number 3: Fecal Matter

Once bed bugs have finished feeding, they will crawl away and find somewhere to hide. It is around these areas that you are likely to find their fecal droppings. Bed bug excrement is most commonly found as black stains on mattresses and bed coverings or as small reddish-black specks near the corners of rooms, outlets, or near cracks and crevices throughout the home.

Sign Number 4: Bites On Your Skin

One of the best ways to identify a bed bug infestation is by the bites they leave on people’s skin. You can tell you are being bitten by bed bugs if the red raised bite marks on your skin are in a straight line or zig-zag pattern. We should mention that not everyone reacts the same to bed bug bites, 30-60% of people who are bitten by bed bugs show no reaction at all.

Sign Number 5: Bed Bug Eggs

Bed bugs lay their eggs wherever they can, but usually, near somewhere they hide during the day. To spot bed bug eggs around your home, look for tiny cream-colored, sometimes clear casings, near cracks, or in crevices, and creases around your home and sleeping area.
